Spring Dangers in Dogs - Symptoms, Causes, Diagnosis

For every season there is a joy and issue for every dog parent. Spring is no exception. But prevention will help solve many of them. The main thing is to take the necessary measures in a timely manner.

What spring problems are most common?

Exacerbation of chronic diseases

Usually, twice a year domestic animals with chronic diseases experience unpleasant exacerbation. Spring exacerbations are much more difficult.
Firstly, it is associated with vitamin deficiency and a decrease in immunity. Secondly, adverse weather conditions significantly affect.
Chronic diseases, aggravated in spring, most often concern the following body systems:

  • cardiovascular system,
  • digestive system,
  • musculoskeletal system,
  • nervous system

If a pet suffers from chronic gastroenteritis, urolithiasis, chronic renal failure, arthritis and other diseases, you will need qualified help from a veterinarian according to the assessment the condition of the animal, and recommendations for preventive measures.
Typically, such activities consist of taking medications, healthy supplements and a special diet.

Spring colds in domestic animals

As noted earlier, in the spring, animals may experience vitamin deficiency and decreased immunity. That is why dogs and cats are susceptible to viral respiratory diseases at this time. If your pet has nasal discharge, constantly sneezes or coughs, has watery eyes, most likely these are symptoms of this particular disease. But they can testify to other, more dangerous diseases. Therefore, do not hesitate to visit the veterinarian. Only a specialist diagnoses the disease and prescribes the correct course of treatment, thanks to which the animal will quickly recover, and, most importantly, will not receive complications.

Spring allergy in animals

Atopic dermatitis is an allergic skin disease that is exacerbated in spring. When the snow begins to melt, reagents accumulate in large quantities and enter the melt water. In addition to reagents, there may be remnants of frozen rotten food under the snow. All this is the reason for the occurrence of allergic reactions on the skin of the paws. The first spring bloom can also provoke allergies in animals.

Allergy symptoms in animals:

  • -nasal or eye discharge,
  • -rash,
  • -skin redness,
  • -severe scratching,
  • -drowsiness

It is important for owners prone to allergies to have antihistamines on hand. Daily anti-allergy supplements will help to strengthen immunity.

If the cause of the allergy is unknown, see your veterinarian for diagnosis and treatment. By the way, allergy to flowering plants requires the systemic use of medicines during the flowering period.

Spring problems - fleas, ticks and worms

It is in the spring that the risk of contracting parasites arises not only in animals that walk on the street every day, but also in those who never leave the premises. In the spring, fleas are activated, which can even be found in the entrances. Therefore, parasites can enter the premises on the owner's clothing.
Fleas are carriers of various diseases (for example, flea dermatitis) or worm eggs. A great danger to our fur friends is represented by ticks - carriers of dangerous diseases, one of which is piroplasmosis. Protecting a pet from parasites is possible only thanks to timely preventive measures - treatment against worms, fleas and ticks.

Take care of your pets. If you have questions about your health, be sure to contact your veterinarian. Let spring bring you joy, and spring issues pass by your beloved pets.
